Subject: [watchdubya] Updated Dump Dubya ToDo

Ok you guys. I updated the Dump Dubya list. As you
might know it has suggestions of ways to fight this pesky
little coup--sample letters, recommended resources and such.

There are two versions of the same letter here.
A Word version attachment and an ASCII version
pasted below. The Word version is preferable since it
retains formatting. The ASCII version, sorta looks
like hell 'cause the lines wrap and should only be viewed
if you can't access the Word version.

Hope one of them is useful to you.
Thanks.

feel free to make them; I'll be updating this to incorporate them. This
list
is a work in progress--as is our democracy.

Make Democracy Count!
PLEASE take action even if you only have time for one letter.

Thank you.

4) SYMBOLIC MESSAGES AND COLLECTIVE MEMORIES

It is essential that people know they are not (as Alan says) "a lone
voice crying in the wilderness." Not everyone has internet access,
and we must show them they are not alone. This site has excellent
suggestions for doing so:
http://members.aol.com/kgar41/gw.html
I got some ideas from that site and some from other places.
I apologize if I don't give proper attribution in each case. You know who
you are though.

4-a) Language

Please be very deliberate and selective with use of language.
It is powerful. Do not imply casually slip into acceptance of the
unacceptable by using certain expressions out of habit. Instead,
consider referring to the following:

*Al Gore:
-As "President de facto"

*Dubya
-As "Fraudulent Bush" (per Dennis Baer)
ongman Dictator George W. Bush (to draw the strong parallels
between him and Milosevic)
-Heil to the Thief

*January 20, 2000:

-As "Coronation Day"

4-b) Symbols

*Write messages on ALL paper money:
-" Bush Cheated" (per Dennis Baer)
-"Gore Won"
-"President Gore"

Note:
We need to think of what to do if we get paper money with Dubya slogans.
I suggest we take them out of circulation by donating each one to an
appropriate
Dubya Dumping cause. But then they may put it back in circulation. Dunno.
Still working on this one. Suggestions are welcome.

*Use stamps with American flags, and put them on the envelope upside down.
Possibly even write below it something like "DDD." (This stands for Day
Democracy Died.)

* Fly your flag at half-mast, certainly on Coronation Day and perhaps until
the siege is over.
Possibly turn it upside down as well.

*Wear a black ribbon, possibly with an appropriate slogan on it, certainly
on
Coronation Day and perhaps other days. Wear black on Coronation Day.

*Talk to people, recruit them, remind them that we are trying to save our
Democracy for our own sake and our children's sake. (Paraphrased from Jesse
Gilleland)

4-c) Signs, Bumper Stickers, Flyers, etc.

4-d) Don't get body snatched. Remember not to get amnesia.

Sadly we didn't imagine the events of the last few weeks, but sometimes
it seems like we did what with public officials and the media acting like
Dubya was just elected President and just getting on with business as usual.
Hold the phone, it's not business as usual. There's this little
inconvenience
known as reality. And whatever their sinister reasons for playing like
Dubya is a legitimate you know what, we're not playing along. To that end,
Norma supplied the facts in APPENDIX C.

When it comes to Dictatorships, we will not go quietly into that bad night.

Dear Editor,

It has come to my attention that your newspaper will
participate with other news media outlets to investigate some or
all of Florida's ballots. I applaud your news organization for seeking
the truth on behalf of this nation's citizens. I suspect you will
get pressure to call off such an investigation, but as a reader, and
as an American, I strongly encourage your newspaper to proceed until
you have determined the true outcome of Florida's election.
Thank you for maintaining the courage to seek the truth.

Sincerely,

2/Sample letter to horrible old Time magazine

[From*]

Letters To The Editor
TIME Magazine
1271 Avenue of the Americas
New York, NY 10020

Editor, Time Magazine:

I want to tell you why I just cancelled my subscription to Time Magazine.
I am disgusted that your Person of the Year is a fascist.
George W. Bush ascended to the Presidency of the U.S. by using the
corrupt tactics of a ruthless dictator with powerful associates.
Al Gore got many more votes both outside and inside of Florida.
In a Democracy this fact would make him President.
But in Dictatorship there are other means. Bush used them all:

-His cousin John Ellis, not coincidently employed by Fox news,
consulted with Bush five times on election eve, then made
Fox the first network to wrongly declare Bush winner.

-His campaign co-chair Katherine Harris, not coincidently
Florida's Secretary of State, repeatedly ordered legal hand
recounts halted, thereby fatally delaying them.

-His brother Jeb, not coincidently Florida's Governor,
publicly encouraged his Legislature to appoint their own electors
if Gore got more votes. It ended up being unnecessary because.

-His Supreme Court lackeys: Scalia, O'Connor, Renquist, Thomas,
and Kennedy; ended the recount and handed him the Presidency
by issuing a blatantly partisan decision with no sound basis in law,
logic, or president.

That is your Person of the Year. He used every means except
counting votes to reach the Presidency. He is despicable and
Time Magazine is equally despicable for celebrating his crime.
That is why I cancelled my subscription.

In addition, I have written to all companies who advertised in
that issue and told them that I will boycott their products as long
as they continue to advertise in Time.

Sincerely,

[*]

3/Sample letter to any media outlet (I sent it to "60 Minutes" et al)

[From*]

Executive Producer Don Hewitt
60 Minutes
524 West 57th Street
New York, New York 10019

Mr. Hewitt:

I would think that a blatantly stolen U.S. Presidential election
would be the biggest story a journalist could investigate and report on.
Well it just happened. I urge you to investigate it and report on it
immediately.

It is as clear as can be that Al Gore won this election.
It is increasingly undeniable that George W. Bush stole this election.
He stole it by using unscrupulous tactics too numerous to list,
but including the following in Florida alone:

Sending rent-a-rioters into Miami-Dade county to shut down the
hand recount; refusing to allow hand recounts in Florida while
demanding them for their own benefit in New Mexico; illegally
allowing Republicans to fix ballot application in Seminole and
Martin Counties; purging the voter roles of many legal voters,
mostly Democrats, many black,
by wrongly claiming they were felons; going to extraordinary
lengths to suppress the black vote.

Any one of these tactics--alone--accounts for the margin of "victory."
And any one of them alone would make for a worthwhile investigative
report on your part. However, I believe that the suppression of the
black vote is far and away the most horrifying aspect of this scandal.
And it's becoming increasingly apparent that it is a standard--
and chillingly effective--Republican tactic.

Remember the 1994 New Jersey Governor's race? Ed Rollins,
a Republican political consultant openly boasting about how he
had just helped win that race by spending about $500,000 to
suppress the black vote. He said GOP operatives had made
payments to Democratic precinct workers in black areas with
the condition they sit on their hands on election day. And he
said that his campaign had contributed to church charities in return
for black ministers keeping mum on the virtues of Democratic incumbent.

That revelation caused a minor ripple and was quickly forgotten.
It did no lasting damage to the newly elected Republican Governor--
Christine Todd Whitman. Quite the contrary, Christine Todd Whitman
was just named by Bush head up the EPA.

Now back to the 2000 Presidential Election and the issue of
voter suppression in Florida. As reported by Dr Ronald Waters,
11/16/2000, in The Black World Today:

"On Saturday, November 11, the NAACP held public hearings
in Florida at which a series of witnesses revealed what they had
experienced in attempting to exercise the right to vote. Testimony
was presented, for instance, by the Florida State NAACP
President Adora Nweze, who was told she could not vote
even though she had a proper registration card, but who waited
90 minutes and after demanding a ballot finally obtained one.

Two Law enforcement officials testified that an unopened ballot
box was in their possession which had not been turned in; other
records of ballot boxes not having been picked up until Wednesday
morning were reported by ministers whose churches served as
polling stations; and altogether, eight such boxes were discovered
by the Ms. Nweze as not having been turned in.

Testimony from several parts of the State indicated that perhaps
thousands of African Americans were prevented from voting, who
possessed legal voter registration cards but were told they were
not on the rolls, who were told they were sent absentee ballot but
who never received them, or who were intimidated by being
mistakenly identified as convicted felons at police checkpoints setup
near black neighborhoods. Then, lines of people at polling stations in
black neighborhoods were either in the polling stations or outside in
the line when the polls were summarily closed.

This powerful oral testimony, much of which is substantiated
by affidavits and other forms of documentation, presents a picture
of wide-spread voter suppression in the black neighborhoods of the
State of Florida. This testimony is also evidence that will be turned
over to the Justice Department and in light of the commitment of
Attorney Janet Reno to review the material, it should certainly trigger
action under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act which prohibits such
dilatory and unlawful tactics."

I doubt that Florida is atypical; it just came under scrutiny
because of the closeness of the count and the criticality of the
electoral votes at stake. Probably an investigation into other
states would reveal similar tactics.

I urge you to immediately conduct such an investigation.
Time is critical since the perpetrator of this stolen election
will be inaugurated on January 20. Cover-ups are no doubt
being initiated. There cannot be a bigger story and there could
not be more at stake--the integrity of a U.S. Presidential election,
and the violated rights of masses of U.S. voters. Please help.

Sincerely,

[*]

4/Sample letter to the apparently comatose DNC

[From*]

Joseph J. Andrew
DNC National Chair
Democratic National Committee
430 S. Capitol St. SE
Washington, DC 20003
http://www.democrats.org/contact/guestbook.html

Mr. Andrew:

Perhaps you at the DNC have noticed that your country
and constituents are going through a crisis right now.
We have just had a fraudulent, and probably stolen, election
at the hands of the Republicans. The person claiming to be
President Elect is illegitimate.
Perversely though, we have even bigger problems.
Our biggest problem is that the Democratic National Committee
has yet to do anything about it.

To the best of my knowledge you have not called for investigations
into the massive and numerous voting irregularities in Florida, or
challenged the outcome of such a tainted election. Why not Sir?!
Your constituents, as well as many other people, are furious about
this fraudulent election. We are totally unwilling to accept the tainted
outcome. And we are doing everything in our power to fight it.
We are writing letters to congress and media and organizing protests
and setting up mailing lists and web sites and on and on and on.
All with limited time and resources and expertise and experience.
And all because of the bottom line--we are totally unwilling to
accept this tainted outcome. Still, in spite of our determination
our power isn't very far reaching. Yours is.

We need that power. We need your immediate help, and we
urge you to do anything possible beginning with the following:

-Encourage the Democratic members of Congress to challenge the
Florida electors, as set forth in the US Constitution, on January 6, 2001.
We believe such a challenge is essential in light of the numerous and
serious voting irregularities in Florida, in order to stop the resulting
theft of the Presidency, and for the preservation of American Democracy.

-Unite with other Democrats to demand a full investigation into
the many serious irregularities and civil rights violations that
occurred in Florida, before and after election
day. The investigation should include the conflicts of interest on
the part of public officials who had a heavy hand in the election fix.
Among them: the US Supreme Court, the Florida Governor,
and the Florida Secretary of State. Special attention should also
be paid to the abuse of power on the part of Election Supervisors
in Seminole and Martin Counties.

-Openly support, encourage, and assist our ongoing efforts to
challenge this election. Devoting part of your website to our
efforts would be a good place to start. Making supportive
statements to the media would be a good place to continue.

-Do not treat or speak of Bush as though he is a legitimate
President Elect. He is not.

All of these things must be done as soon as possible.
With each passing day the Republicans increase the illusion
of legitimacy, solidify ill-gotten power, and cover their tracks.
They have shown that they fight hard and dirty, and will only
be stopped by an outside and very determined force. If we want
to be left with a democracy that we have confidence in, and that is
deserving of our confidence, we must be that force.

We are your constituents. We support you with words and
money and votes. In return we expect your support and
help in this time of crisis.

Sincerely,

[*]

5/Sample letter to Congress

[From*]

[To+]

Dear [+]:

I am outraged and horrified that our Democratic leaders
are not yet speaking out against this fraudulent election.
They are behaving as though the election has reached a fair
conclusion and now it is time for unity. Neither is true.
Due to the squelching of vote counts in Florida, and the
US Supreme Court's blatantly partisan and fantastically
improper anointing of Bush, this unfair election is far from over.
And we are not remotely ready for unity.

When the Republicans call for unity they do so with a smirk.
They are actually telling us to be quiet. They know what they
are getting away with and so do we. But we will not sit quietly,
not until we get a fair outcome.

We do not expect you to sit quietly either. Unlike Bush
you are a legitimately elected official, and we need your help
to fight this travesty. I urge you to help in any way you can,
including the following:

-Do not treat or speak of Bush as though he is a legitimate
President Elect. He is not.

-Challenge the Florida electors, as set forth in the US Constitution,
on January 6, 2001. We believe such a challenge is essential in light

6/Sample letter back to Congress when you get a wimpy form letter back from
sample #5

[From*]

[To+]

Dear [+]:

Thank you so much for your prompt and detailed reply.
I especially value it because I'm posting correspondence
on a website devoted to this terribly important issue. And I think
it's wonderful that so many of your constituents will get to read
your thoughts on it.

Your reference to the "selection of our 43rd President,"
instead of "election.," is conspicuous and I appreciate your
deliberate and appropriate use of language.

Equally conspicuous however is your lack of recognition
that the "selection" outcome was largely attributable to systematic
abuse of power by public officials, outright intimidation,
and widespread civil rights violations. In a word, "fraud."

It's not merely that this was a close election that exposed
the archaic nature of our voting system as you imply.
Though that was a factor, and one that must be addressed.
The bigger issue is the fact that the Republicans
exploited our archaic voting system in order to steal this election.

To point out just a few of their outrageous tactics:

- They purged the voter roles of many legal voters, mostly Democrats,
by wrongly claiming they were felons.
-They sent rent-a-rioters into Miami-Dade county to shut down
the hand recount.
-They refused to allow hand recounts in Florida while
demanding them for their own benefit in New Mexico.
- Election Supervisors in Seminole and Martin Counties
allowed only Republicans, not Democrats, to illegally fix ballot
applications.

Again, these are just a few of their tactics.
And any one of these tactics--alone--accounts for the margin of "victory."
This fact is being underscored by the results of
recounts now being conducted by a coalition of newspapers.
As reported in the Washington Post:

"TAVARES, Fla., Dec. 19 -- An inspection of more than
6,000 discarded presidential ballots in Lake County has
revealed that Vice President Gore lost a net 130 votes
that were clearly his even in a conservative, GOP bastion that
George W. Bush dominated as a whole.

The tally of uncounted ballots Monday by the Orlando
Sentinel was the first outside review to be completed in any
Florida county since the U.S. Supreme Court halted a statewide
recount on Dec. 9. At that point Bush's ever-fluctuating lead over
Gore was 154 votes -- and the margin might have been shaved to
a mere two dozen had the Lake County ballots been counted."

It is already being proven that Al Gore won this election.
It is increasingly undeniable that George W. Bush stole this election.
Do you really think that it's better for our country,
or for the integrity of future elections,
or for the careers of Democratic politicians,
to ignore such blatant facts?

This episode has unfortunately proven what cynics
have always claimed--that there's no point in voting.
It has turned formerly idealistic voters into cynics.
The voting and democratic processes in America
are largely discredited. They are further discredited when our
Democratic leaders, faced with such blatant facts,
refuse to take action. They are, in essence,
being complicit in this stolen election.

Do not be that type of Democratic leader.
For your constituents and your country, please:
-Investigate this scandal.
-Investigate it prior to inauguration day, before the
inevitable cover-ups are in place.
-Investigate it before it happens again.

Sincerely,

[*]

Washington Post Erases Report of Republican Thugs Who Stole Election
Remember the thugs who rioted in the Miami-Dade elections office and stopped
the manual recount of 10,000 undervotes? This one criminal event probably
stole the election for Bush. But please try to forget it, because the
Washington Post doesn't want you to remember this ominous event. On December
